County Championship Days 2&1 and CB40 Cricket

Two more Championship matches began today, plus an exciting, late finishing, CB40 game, just in case that wasn't enough!

County Championship

Day 2

Gloucestershire v Hampshire
Glo - 271
Ham - 104-2
Gloucestershire went to 271 before being finished off, with Ali finishing with 3 for 69. Hampshire then lost Adams for 9, but McKenzie and Shafayat (20) added 79 for the second wicket to go ahead in the contest. McKenzie then took the visitors past 100 and went to 52* before the close.

Day 1

Durham v Surrey
Surrey won the toss and decided to bat
Sur - 129
Dur - 119-4

Surrey continued their slide towards the end of this season as they were skittled by bottom side Durham. The visitors had got to 41-1 before Stokes (4 for 40) and Rushworth (3-36) ran through the middle order reducing Surrey to 80-7. Lewis (23) lifted the innings and took the score past 100, but the hosts were well on top.
Durham also struggled with the bat with Jennings' 23 the top score of the innings so far. Linley took two of the wickets to fall but Benkenstein (40*) and Collingwood (17*) added 61* before the close to leave Durham just 10 behind.

Somerset v Nottinghamshire
Somerset won the toss and decided to field
Not - 18-1

Rain ruined most of the first day at Taunton but 8.1 overs were possible and Nottinghamshire almost survived them, going to 18 before Wessels was caught by Trescothick off Trego just at close.

CB40 Cricket
Warwickshire v Yorkshire - Warwickshire win by 3 wickets (D/L)
Warwickshire won the toss and decided to field
Yor - 213-8 (34 overs)
War - 239-7

Gale and Jaques put on 86 for the first wicket in quick time, with the latter scoring 37 from 33 balls with a 6. Gale then added another 58 with Lyth, before being stumped for 76, also with a 6. Miller made just 1 before falling lbw to Best, who had taken all the wickets so far.
Rain interupted play after 30.5 with Lyth on 55 and Ballance on 12, and when play restarted they attacked hard taking Yorkshire past 200. Lyth was caught for 69 from 54 balls with four 6s, however his wicket caused a clatter of others as the visitors collapsed from 201-3 to 212-8, which included Wright taking two in two.

Porterfield made 19 but 34 from Chopra took Warwickshire to 80-2. The hosts new they had to keep up a reasonable rate and Troughton did just that by adding 61 in 60 balls before being bowled by Rafiq.
Yorkshire now needed some quick wickets to get back in the game and Miller managed to run out Maddy for 2, but Ambrose reached his 50 from 39 balls to keep Warwickshire on top. He and Evans then kept the runs ticking over and left the home side needing 48 from the last 5 overs.
Just as it was beginning to look easy however, Wardlaw nipped in to have Evans (12) caught, leaving the score on 195-5. Ashraf, who had bowled poorly up until that point, then removed the key man Ambrose (64), and when, one run later, Miller made his second run out Warwickshire seemed to have bottled it on 198-7. Piolet and Best had other ideas though, as they bashed 40 runs in 19 balls. Piolet hit 23* off just 9 deliveries including two 6s, while Best (16 from 9 balls) won the match with a four, with four balls remaining.

Star Player: Despite some excellent batting performances, this goes to Best for his 3 for 43, the best figures of the match and for knocking the winning runs in a high pressure situation.
