CB40 cricket - 14th August

Just the one CB40 match today ahead of more Championship action tomorrow.

CB40

Hampshire v Somerset - Somerset win by 50 runs
Hampshire won the toss and decided to field
Som - 288-8
Ham - 178

Trescothick made an early exit when he was snaffled by Adams for 2 but Somerset built at rocket pace in the powerplay overs. Trego passed 50 at around 2 runs per ball, while Jones worked the singles. It couldn't last though and Hampshire fought back by having Trego caught for 61 (from 31 balls with three 6s) and Jones bowled for 24, to leave the score on a more even 93-3.
Hildreth and Suppiah could only make 20 between them but Buttler scored an excellent 51 to take the score to 180. However when he was caught Somerset's finishing charge was cut short. Two more wickets fell, but then Hussain found the boundary, and twice put the ball over it to finish 18 not out and with Barrow (29*) took the visitors to an interesting score to set up an exciting contest.

Adams got the Hampshire innings going with a 6 but was soon out with the score on 13. That became 14-2 and 15-3 as Katich and McKenzie both departed for 0. Ervine made a nervy 7 as the hosts tried to rebuild but was bowled with the score now on 49.
Things improved dramatically after that as Vince and Dawson fought back. The pair put on 73 for the fifth wicket in quick time, but Somerset managed to stay on top by having Dawson caught for 36. Bates made 16, but the pace slowed again and Hampshire were back behind the rate.
The innings collapsed after that as Wood, Riazuddin and Briggs couldn't score a run between them, taking the total of ducks to 5. At 170-9 the game was all but over and it just remained to be seen if Vince could carry his bat and score a century. He managed neither, falling lbw for 95 from 87 balls.

Star Player: The hard work may have already been done by Kirby made sure of the victory with 3 for 19 in six overs that swung the match firmly towards Somerset.
