CB40 Cricket & Tables - 5th August

The four games today all faced rain issues to different extents but three produced results meaning the tables are starting to shape up with only a few games left in the group stages.

Glamorgan v Nottinghamshire - Glamorgan win by 2 runs (D/L)
Glamorgan won the toss and decided to bat
Gla - 181-8
Not - 107-5 (21 overs)

Glamorgan made a steady start but lost a couple of wickets in the powerplay before Nottinghamshire's slow bowlers kicked in. White picked up 3 wickets as the hosts slipped to 88-5, but 35 from North and 62 in 70 balls by Wright boosted their total.
Nottinghamshire also lost two wickets in the powerplay overs but went slightly slower. Wessels scored 38 with three 6s and Patel hit 35 but two wickets fell just before the rain arrived. The total was reduced and Nottinghamshire had three overs to hit 33 runs. Patel was caught but Read hit a 6 as the visitors chased hard. Glamorgan though hung on for a 2 run win.
Star Player: Cosker for his 3 for 26 that prevented Nottinghamshire from making a quick start.

Essex v Leicestershire - Essex win by 7 wickets
Essex won the toss and decided to field
Lei - 151-7 (25 overs)
Ess - 154-3

Rain delayed the start and cut the match to 25 overs a side. Thornley made 55 at the top of the order as Leicestershire made a good start and raced to 94-1, but regular wickets restricted the middle order and prevented the visitors from setting a big total.
In reply Pettini and Westley put on 62 for the first wicket but both left in quick succession. Smith added 20 in 25 balls before he was caught with Essex on 102-3. Shah though took the attack to Leicestershire hitting 45* in 46 balls and added 52* with ten Doeschate (23*) to win the match with an over and a half remaining.

Star Player: Shah, his winning knock took Essex home.

Middlesex v Worcestershire - Match tied
Worcestershire won the toss and decided to field
Mid - 229-4
Wor - 229-7

The best match of the evening also began with rain that reduced the match to 36 overs a side. Malan was caught for 3 and three more wickets fell in the first half of the innings to leave the hosts on 67-4. Morgan then opened his shoulders in an incredible innings that included eleven 4s and six 6s. He raced to a superb century and finished on 120 not out off 80 balls. With him was Davey who made 53* as Middlesex finished on 229.
Ali and Solanki both departed early, but 35 from Mitchell gave the innings some impetus before Hughes (69) took them past 100. Hughes' knock lasted 64 balls and included three 6s as Worcestershire tried to keep up with the rate.
Wickets continued to fall but 42 from 33 balls by Andrew kept the visitors in the hunt, while Pinner and Pardoe took the score past 200. In the end though it was left to Scott who thrashed 29 off just 11 balls including three more 6s, but couldn't take Worcestershire over the line as the game ended in a dramatic draw.

Star Player: Easily Morgan for his thrilling century
