County Championship D2 and CB40 cricket & Tables - 12th August

A big day of CB40 cricket with five games being played, and some very exciting scores and results. The tables are below, but before that here are the two Championship matches also in progress.

County Championship

Day 3

Sussex v Middlesex - Sussex win by 8 wickets
Mid - 170 & 211
Sus - 287 & 98-2

Sussex only used four bowlers as Middlesex lost wickets throughout the morning. Anyon and Khan both took three wickets while Dexter scored 40 to take the visitors past 200, their lead however was only 95.
Nash was caught with the score on 9, but 35 from Joyce boosted the total, before Wells (29) and Goodwin (19) saw Sussex home.

Points: Sussex 21, Middlesex 3

Northamptonshire v Leicestershire
Nor - 399 & 211-3
Lei - 299

White fell early in the morning but 61 from Thakor and 56* by Henderson took Leicestershire almost up to 300. In the end though they had to settle for a 100 run defecit.
Peters (56) and O'Brien (79) then put on 139 for the 1st wicket to effectively take the game away from the visitors. Three wickets fell in the evening session but Northamptonshire now have a lead of 311 and all of tomorrow (if they wish) to try and bowl Leicestershire out.

CB40 Cricket

Lancashire v Netherlands - Lancashire win by 9 wickets
Lancashire won the toss and decided to field
Net - 68
Lan - 69-1

The Netherlands batted out all of 20.5 overs, although Lancashire used six different bowlers as they rolled over the team in orange. Parry and Keedy both took 3 wickets while only Barresi and Bukhari made it to double figures. Slightly surprisingly the visitors had made it to 22 before they lost a wicket, but then lost all 10 for 46. Ouch!
Prince managed to get run out for 4, but Moore (50*) and Croft (14) took Lancashire to an easy victory.

Star Player: Shahzad for his 2 for 7 in four overs that set the ball rolling (or the dominoes falling).

Somerset v Nottinghamshire - Somerset win by 5 wickets
Somerset won the toss and decided to field
Not - 206-9
Som - 210-5

After Hales was trapped lbw for 7, Lumb (41) and Wessels (53 from 42 balls) shot Nottinghamshire to 96. Both fell in quick succession, however, and were followed by Voges (1) who's form seems to have suffered since their home defeat in the Twenty20 quarter-final.
Patel added 22, but wickets continued to fall and only 39* from White lifted the visitors past 200, as they had to settle for a below par score.

Kieswetter made a strong start and scored 44 (off 23 balls) out of 57 for the opening partnership. Trego added 26 and Somerset were flying at just under 10 an over. Carter fought back for Nottinghamshire picking up three wickets while White took two, but Trescothick proved invincible. The captain carried his bat for an excellent 87 from 69 balls, and Somerset won with 10 overs and 4 balls to spare.

Star Player: Rehman, for his 6 for 16 in eight overs that prevented Nottinghamshire from setting a good score.

Kent v Derbyshire - Kent win by 111 runs
Derbyshire won the toss and decided field
Ken - 248-6
Der - 137

Kent finished with a very odd looking scorecard that read like this: Billings, bowled for 143 (he was the last wicket to fall); Key and Northeast, both 0; Stevens, 40; Mahmood, 8; Blake, 3; Jones, 41* and Tredwell, 5*. Billings' thrilling innings lasted 113 balls and included seventeen 4s and a six. Their total was good but not ungetable and an exciting match seemed instore.
Derbyshire got to 46-1 and 84-3 but then collapsed as Stevens tucked into the middle and lower order. He finished with 5 for 36 and also made a run out as the visitors fell well short of their target. A few players made starts but none pushed on and Kent completed an easy victory.

Star Player: Easily Billings for a superb 143.

Yorkshire v Unicorns - Yorkshire win by 5 wickets (D/L)
Yorkshire won the toss and decided to field
Uni - 150-6 (37 overs)
Yor - 162-5

The Unicorns' innings was interupted by rain although only three overs were lost per side. Sidebottom took two wickets and Rashid 3 as the visitors slipped to 48-5. They were rescued by Parsons (48*) and Reece and Woolley who made 20s.
In reply Yorkshire collapsed from 34-0 to 41-4 with Woolley and Querl taking two wickets each. When Rashid fell 30 runs later Yorkshire were in trouble with the overs starting to run out. Ballance (69*) and Rafiq (34) put bat to ball however and survived everything thown at them to sneak home with 3 overs to spare.

Star Player: Ballance for his 69 not out, including six 4s and a six.

Durham v Glamorgan - Durham win by 59 runs
Durham won the toss and decided to bat
Dur - 307-2
Gla - 248

I know I left the best till last but I hope it was worth it. Glamorgan scored the joint, second-highest score of any team today but were still well beaten, by a Durham side that has suddenly found its form.

Stoneman was the stalwart of the innings, surviving all 40 overs and unsurpisingly coming up tops with a score of 112 from 110 balls. Mustard, on the other hand, simply carried on where he left off yesterday when he made 143. Today it was only 107, but it came from just 61 balls, with nine 4s and four 6s! His score dominated the opening partnership which ended at 157.
Glamorgan may have hoped to fight back but the second wicket partnership also went to 150. Muchall, with the liberty to swing, crashed 75 from 70 balls and was only caught off the final ball of the innings. Jones had the worst figures of the visitors' five bowlers, with 0 for 71 from his 8 overs.

Glamorgan tried hard. The top six batsmen all scored at faster than a run-a-ball, but most failed to make big scores. North made 59 in the middle to take the visitors past 200, but it was Wallace who gave Durham the biggest fears that their total might be reached. He played a wonderful innings that was ended by a catch by Collingwood on 105 from 88 balls. With the rate rising the end came quickly as the tail were blown away. Breese took 4 for 50 as Durham won with 3 overs and 4 balls remaining.

Star Player: This is a tough one as there were several great performances, but I think it has to go to Stoneman for his excellent innings.
