County Championship Round 8 - Day 4/2

Only one draw in this round so far as several teams have picked up big points to help shape the tables, which will be published in a couple of days.

Day 4

Surrey v Warwickshire - Warwickshire win by 5 wickets
Sur - 223 & 245
War - 247 & 222-5

Warwickshire eased home without losing any further wickets, to extend their lead at the top of Division 1. Ambrose finished 89 not out to make sure there would be no surprise victory for Surrey, who will be disappointed they weren't able to make it an even closer contest.
Surrey take 4 points, while Warwickshire collect 20.

Hampshire v Glamorgan - Hampshire win by 31 runs
Ham - 316 & 273
Gla - 327 & 231

Hampshire came out on top in this gripping match. At 168-4 Glamorgan had taken the upper hand but two wickets for no runs evened the teams again. Ali and Tomlinson collected 3 wickets each as the home side's bowlers shared the spoils. North made 69, but didn't have enough support as Glamorgan remain rock bottom of Division 2.
Hampshire pick up 22 points and Glamorgan get 6.

Northamptonshire v Gloucestershire - Northamptonshire win by 121 runs
Nor - 411 & 246-5d
Glo - 268 & 268
Northamptonshire completed their win late in the day as Middlebrook took 5 for 63. Gloucestershire fell well short of their tough target despite 70 from opener Howell.
     Northamptonshire collect 22 points to Gloucestershire's 4.

Lancashire v Middlesex - Match drawn
Lan - 392 & 266-8
Mid - 230 & 265-1

Middlesex batted all day for the loss of just one wicket to defy the Champions their first win of the season. Lancashire tried 7 bowlers but Robson (50), Rogers (138*) and Denly (61*) batted sensibly all day to claim a draw.
Lancashire take 9 points while Middlesex get 6.

Day 2

Sussex v Nottinghamshire
Sus - 303-9
Not - 320-4

Nottinghamshire finally made a century opening stand, their first in more than four years, with Hales (80) and Wessels (184*) putting on 171 together. Wessels batted magnificently to take the visitors past Sussex's total before the close. Centurian Nash picked up the wickets of Patel and Taylor as Sussex fought back, slightly, but they are still well behind the game as Nottinghamshire try to get full batting points.

Look out for more Pro40 tomorrow!
