County Championship R7 - Day 4 and Tables

What looked to be the most exciting week of Championship Cricket yet turned to disappointment, as every game ended in a draw.

Day 4

Warwickshire v Lancashire - Match drawn
War - 557-6d
Lan - 197 & 343-5 (f/o)

An astonishing second innings batting performance from Lancashire turned this game around. Horton carried his bat to make 137 not out, while Cross finished on 75*. Warwickshire used eight bowlers but failed to claim what should have been an easy victory.
Warwickshire take 9 points, while Lancashire pick up 4.

Surrey v Somerset - Match drawn
Som - 512-9d & 180
Sur - 388 & 239-7

Somerset's innings was wrapped up in the morning as they set a challenging total of 305 for Surrey to win. Meaker finished with career best figures of 8 for 52.
Surrey's reply started badly. Davies couldn't match his first innings ton and was out for 4. Roy (41) and Rudolf (45) took the score to 94 from 25 overs, but both were out soon after. Hamilton-Brown top scored with 70* but regularly lost partners as Somerset edged towards a win. In the end though the teams settled for a draw.
Surrey collect 10 points, to Somersets 11.

Leicestershire v Essex - Match drawn
Lei - 372 & 306-5
Ess - 409 & 30-2

Leicestershire set Essex 270 to win, but not enough time. Only twelve overs were bowled of the final innings and although the home side took two wickets, it was never going to happen. Earlier Sarwan fell two short of a hundred.
Leicestershire take 9 points, but Essex get 10.

Worcestershire v Sussex - Match drawn
Sus - 315 & 258-4
Wor - 259 & 174-4

Joyce went past 100 again as Sussex set Worcestershire 315 to win. The home side made a good go of it, but ran out of time as the game ended tamely.
Worcestershire claim 8 points and Sussex pick up 9.

Yorkshire v Hampshire - Match drawn
Ham - 427 & 191-2d
Yor - 399-9d

A lot of time was lost today, which spoiled another exciting contest. Katich added 61* to his 196 in the first innings as Hampshire set Yorkshire 220 to win, but the final innings never began.
Yorkshire get 9 points, while Hampshire take 10.

Kent v Northamptonshire - Match drawn
Nor - 418 & 123-0d
Ken - 280-6d & 110-1

Kent declared overnight and gave Northamptonshire some easy runs, to set up a tense finale. In the end though the visitors played it safe by setting a target that was never going to be getable. In reply Kent played the game slowly to avoid being dismissed easily and so another game finished disappointingly.
Kent pick up 6 points to Northamptonshire's 7.
