County Champ R9 - D3/2 and Pro40 Cricket

Some time was lost to bad weather but overall there was plenty of play, including a floodlit Pro40 match.

Day 3

Glamorgan v Leicestershire
Lei - 271 & 84-1
Gla - 558-9d

Glamorgan marched on to a huge total in their first innings, mainly thanks to the Captain Wallace, for his 118. Leicestershire tried nine different bowlers, which shows how much they were struggling, and in the end the hosts declared with a lead of 287. Second time around the visitors have made a solid start, but will have to bat all of tomorrow to secure a draw.

Day 2

Durham v Lancashire
Dur - 102 & 0-0
Lan - 170

After the morning session had been lost to rain Lancashire continued to extend their lead over Durham. Horton successfully carried his bat, ending unbeaten on 49. Onions, who picked up the final wicket, finished with 5 for 43. Rain wiped out most of the final session.

Gloucestershire v Derbyshire
Der - 95 & 211-5
Glo - 294

Gloucestershire took a 199 runs lead in the first innings after they were eventually bowled out. Gidman went on to score 129 this morning before he fell lbw. The Derbyshire line up, who must have been nervous after their first display, played considerably better and by the close had wiped out the defecit thanks to 72 from Durston and 64* from Redfern, the host still hold the upper hand however and will look to possibly wrap up a win tomorrow.

Worcestershire v Somerset
Wor - 340
Som - 27-2

Worcestershire added 70 runs to their score this morning, although also lost thier last seven wickets, but soon had Somerset under pressure again with two quick wickets. Solanki was out for 106, and there were some runs down the order, but the home side would have hoped to get 50-60 more. Trego took 5 for 75 as the stand out bowler.
Despite their quick demise Worcestershire knocked over the visiting openers for 11 runs, but rain ended proceedings early.

Middlesex v Sussex
Sus - 283
Mid - 229-3

Sussex completed a succesful come-back in their innings from 66-5, to finish with 283. Murtagh picked up 5 for 55. Rogers (93*) and Denly (67) then put on 145 for the second wicket after Robson was dismissed for 0. Morgan (52*) batted well in the final session as Middlesex passed 200 and closed in on the visitors score.

Yorkshire v Northamptonshire
Nor - 253
Yor - 190-3

Root is 98 not out overnight after some play was lost to rain in Yorkshire. Bairstow, straight back from England duty is 36 not out and will hope to take the hosts past Northamptonshire's score tomorrow morning.

Pro40

Hampshire v Nottinghamshire - Nottinghamshire win by 12 runs
Nottinghamshire won the toss and decided to bat
Not - 277- 4
Ham - 265

Nottinghamshire made a steady start after losing Lumb for 0 in the first over. Hales made 33, but after 25 overs the visitors only had 160 on the board for 4 wickets; Patel had mede 66 of those. It was Taylor though who dominated the final overs as he went to a personal best 115* from just 77 balls, hitting seven 4s and seven 6s in a masterful innings. This included him scoring 24 off the penultimate over. With him was Voges who added 32 to boost the score.
Hampshire made a thumping reply as they raced to 88-0 off ten overs. Carberry made 54, but it was Adams' 51 from 36 balls that gave the innings it's early impetus. The arrival of Patel however turned the game as he picked up three wickets in his first four overs. Mullaney and Voges also added pressure by restricting the runs, although Ervine kept Hampshire in the game with a run-a-ball 68. In the end the hosts needed 40 from the final three overs, but with Mascarenhas still there anything could happen. Indeed his took 16 from the next over bringing the required rate down to two runs per ball. But some excellent fielding meant this was just beyond the home side as they fell short in the final over.

Star Player: Taylor, for a game making 115 not out, and a great catch to remove Adams and begin the flow of wickets.

Wednesday 30 May 2012

County Championship Round 9 - Days 2/1

Round 9 began proper today and there were plenty of wickets to get the games moving.

Day 2

Glamorgan v Leicestershire
Lei - 199-6
Gla - 302-5

Allenby finished with four wickets to wrap up the Leicestershire that had crawled along at 2.3 runs an over. Glamorgan then went on to reach the visitors' overnight score of 199 in fewer than half the overs, with Rees making 66 and North, who was out just before the close, scoring 116. The hosts will look to turn this score into a big lead and pile the pressure on Leicestershire.

Day 1

Durham v Lancashire
Lancashire won the toss and decided to field
Dur - 102
Lan - 141-8

Lancashire made the right decision to bowl first as they dismissed Durham in 36.3 overs. Their joy was short lived however as they slipped to 19-4. Durham reached 32-1 before disaster really struck with 3 wickets for 2 runs. A partnership of 44 followed but Procter picked up figures of 10o-4m-17r-5w to roll the home side over.
Onions then took four wickets in his first four overs to put the visitors in a worse position than their opponents had been earlier. A small recovery ensued but bowling hero Procter fell for 18 as part of yet another collapse. Lancashire did go past Durham's total, and then extended their lead through opener Horton (31*) who could carry his bat tomorrow.

Gloucestershire v Derbyshire
Derbyshire won the toss and decided to bat
Der - 95
Glo - 182-5

Derbyshire may top Division 2 but that didn't stop them being dismissed for under 100 after they chose to bat this morning. Gidman picked up four wickets as none of the visiting batsmen could make it past 18. Gloucestershire batted steadily in reply and passed Derbyshire's total in the evening session, although they lost two late wickets. Gidman was the undoubted star of the day finishing 72 not out.

Worcestershire v Somerset
Worcestershire won the toss and decided to bat
Wor - 270-3

Worcestershire made one of their best starts to a match this year with Mitchell (80) and Hughes (53) putting on 100 for the first wicket before they were both caught behind. After that Solanki went on to 82 not out as Worcestershire finished a dominant day with a flourish.

Middlesex v Sussex
Sussex won the toss and decided to bat
Sus - 242-8

Sussex have only had one day's break since their last match and they would have been pleased to be batting. Things began badly though as they slipped to 33-4, with Murtagh and Finn combining well. Joyce however went on to 77 before being caught behind. Brown also defied Middlesex's bowlers to make 70. As ever it is hard to judge a match before both sides have batted, but it seems pretty well honours even after day 1.

Yorkshire v Northamptonshire
Northamptonshire won the toss and decided to bat
Nor - 253
Yor - 27-0

Northamptonshire were in deep trouble at 45-5, but were rescued by Hall (79) and Murphy (40). More runs from the lower order took them past 250 before they were dismissed just before the close. Yorkshire may be rueing not finishing their opponents off sooner. There was some good news for them though as the ended the day with a charge, scoring 27 off just five overs.

Tuesday 29 May 2012

Just one match of each competition today plus the updated Pro40 Tables.

Leicestershire won the toss and decided to bat
Lei - 199-6

Leicestershire crawled along too less than 200 on the first day between the two clubs at the bottom of Division 2. Thornely made 97 from 267 balls but was the sixth man out as Glamorgan scratched away. I think everyone is hoping for a more exciting day tomorrow.

Pro40

Netherlands v Essex - Netherlands win by 5 wickets
Essex won the toss and decided to bat
Ess - 112

Essex were thrashed by the Netherlands, who made it two wins in as many days. The visitors began badly with Pettini falling first ball and Shah lbw to the third. It never got better as the visitors slipped to a very poor total.
In reply the Netherlands lost five wickets but didn't look too trouble as they swept to an easy victory, with Swart top scoring again with 40.

Star Player: Van der Gugten, for his three wickets that decimated the Essex top order to set the game firmly in the hands of the home side.

County Champ R8 - D4 & Tables and Pro40 Cricket

Final day of Sussex v Nottinghamshire and the updated Championship Tables, plus a Pro40 match from the continent.

Day 4

Sussex v Nottinghamshire - Nottinghamshire win by 7 wickets
Sus - 309 & 263
Not - 428 & 147-3

Goodwin (74) and Wright (55) carried on where they left off this morning, extending Sussex's lead, but both were removed by Adams (who couldn't bowl yesterday due to a sore shoulder). Four wickets fell for 20 runs as Nottinghamshire tried to finish the home side's innings quickly but Anyon (22*) held on to deny the visitors. Eventually Sussex were all out with a lead of 144 to set up an exciting game. Carter finished with 4 for 64.
The hosts needed early wickets but instead Nottinghamshire got off to a flyer. Wessels was dismissed with the score on 48 and Hales went 11 runs later, but the new table toppers were always in control. Lumb was lbw to Panesar but Patel completed an excellent game, adding 50* to his 7 wickets to take Nottinghamshire to the target.
Sussex get 5 points but Nottinghamshire pick up 23.

Pro40

Netherlands v Lancashire - Netherlands won by 1 wicket
Lancashire won the toss and decided to bat
Lan - 236
Net - 237-9
The best game of the competition so far took place today. Lancashire shot off at the start and looked set to post over 300. Moore made 77 from 66 balls, while Prince (34), Croft (55) and Brown (41) all provided useful runs. However having reached 199-2 from 31 overs the visitors collapsed dramatically as the Netherlands spun the innings around. Swart and Jamil both took four wickets to restrict Lancashire to only an average score.
The hosts began equally as well scoring 82 from the first 9 overs before losing a wicket. Batsmen though began to come and go quickly as no one was able to reach 50. Parry picked up 4 for 29 as the Netherlands were reduced to 187-8. Bukhari then smashed 36 from 26 balls with two 6s, but he too fell with 9 runs required from 14 balls and the last pair in. Van der Gugten though also hit a six as part of 15 not out from 15 balls to take the home side to the target with two balls to spare.

Star Player: Swart, for his 4 wickets and 41 runs, a great all round effort.

Durham made a good start to their reply going to 207 before losing their first wicket, which was Mustard, caught for 91 from just 68 balls. Stoneman though, just kept going reaching his first one-day hundred, and beating his previous best by 63 runs. Stokes was dismissed for 9 but it didn't prevent Durham from taking, in the end, an easy victory.
Star Player: Stoneman, for his huge 136 not out from 117 balls, to make what could have been a tough chase into an easy one.

Northamptonshire v Warwickshire - Warwickshire win by 8 wickets

Nor - 148
War - 149-2

Compton (81) and Buttler (71) made almost all of the runs for Somerset and put on 121 together, while the rest of the line up struggled. Hampshire in contrast got of to a flyer before Adams was caught for 56. Carberry didn't even notice though and charged on, finishing not out on 103. He took the visitors to their target off just 28.2 overs.

Star player: Carberry, for his unbeaten century off just 83 balls.

Yorkshire v Unicorns - Yorkshire win by 8 wickets
Yorkshire won the toss and decided to field
Uni - 184
Yor - 186-2

Unicorns could only manage 184, and had New (83*) to thank for even reaching that. Sidebottom and Starc picked up three wickets each. Yorkshire were then reduced to 26-2 before Lyth (60*) and Ballance (103*) took them to a comfortable victory. The Unicorn's bowlers were once again powerless as the home side cruised home.

Star Player: Ballance for a masterful hundred in 91 balls with eight 4s and four 6s.

Worcestershire v Middlesex - Worcestershire win by 56 runs
Worcestershire won the toss and decided to bat
Wor - 235-5
Mid - 179

Hughes was caught in the last over for 111, after helping Worcestershire set a par score. Finn went wicketless and struggled at times to contain the runs. Middlesex will have fancied their chance of reaching the target, especially having reached 71-1. However the home side fought hard and bowled well to remove all 10 wickets. Shantry picked up 4 for 32.

Star Player: Hughes, for his hundred that set up the game.

Sur - 223 & 245
War - 247 & 222-5

Warwickshire eased home without losing any further wickets, to extend their lead at the top of Division 1. Ambrose finished 89 not out to make sure there would be no surprise victory for Surrey, who will be disappointed they weren't able to make it an even closer contest.
Surrey take 4 points, while Warwickshire collect 20.

Hampshire v Glamorgan - Hampshire win by 31 runs
Ham - 316 & 273
Gla - 327 & 231

Hampshire came out on top in this gripping match. At 168-4 Glamorgan had taken the upper hand but two wickets for no runs evened the teams again. Ali and Tomlinson collected 3 wickets each as the home side's bowlers shared the spoils. North made 69, but didn't have enough support as Glamorgan remain rock bottom of Division 2.
Hampshire pick up 22 points and Glamorgan get 6.

Northamptonshire v Gloucestershire - Northamptonshire win by 121 runs
Nor - 411 & 246-5d
Glo - 268 & 268

     Northamptonshire collect 22 points to Gloucestershire's 4.

Lancashire v Middlesex - Match drawn
Lan - 392 & 266-8
Mid - 230 & 265-1

Look out for more Pro40 tomorrow!

Two games reached conclusions today, while another started in this odd week of fixtures.

Day 3

Kent v Leicestershire - Kent win by an innings and 279 runs
Lei - 141 & 113
Ken - 533

Kent wrapped up a three day win over Leicestershire as the visitors collapsed dismally. Kent progressed to a huge total with Powell top scoring on 134. Henderson did take five wickets but even that couldn't hide their massive defecit. It wasn't necessary however as the Leicestershire batsmen scratched around for very little. Buck was the top scorer with a championship career best, 27.
Kent take 22 points while Leicestershire get 1.

Essex v Derbyshire - Derbyshire win by 10 wickets
Ess - 182 & 234
Der - 323 & 96-0

Essex struggled to set a competitive total and Derbyshire strolled to yet another victory, their fourth in seven games. Guptill raced to 66 from 52 balls with seven 4s and three 6s to take the visitors home in three days.
Essex pick up 3 points, but Derbyshire collect 22.

Surrey v Warwickshire
Sur - 223 & 245
War - 247 & 181-5

A game of similar scores has made it to the fourth day, just. Warwickshire need just 41 more for victory, and despite being 5 down, should make it. Roy made 71 for Surrey but they failed to set a really challenging total for the table toppers to chase. Warwickshire were reduced to 37-4 but were rescued by Porterfield (66) and Ambrose (74*).

Northamptonshire v Gloucestershire
Nor - 411 & 246-5
Glo - 268

Northamptonshire will surely declare overnight or early in the morning as they already hold a lead of 389 over Gloucestershire. Marshall made 117 in a one-man show for the visitors, but Northamptonshire soon restored their lead with Coetzer adding 86 to his first innings 96.

Lancashire v Middlesex
Lan - 392 & 266-8
Mid - 230 & 29-0

Middlesex have been set a monster 429 for victory, but more likely will look to bat all day tomorrow for the draw. They were dismissed in the morning for a defecit of 162, which Lancashire soon extended, despite a five-for for Malan. Robson and Rogers then saw off 14 overs before the close, but there are many more overs to come tomorrow.

Hampshire v Glamorgan
Ham - 316 & 273
Gla - 327 & 53-2

Hampshire have set Glamorgan 263 for victory in a tense and exciting contest. The visitors have lost two wickets tonight, but are marginally ahead.

Day 1

Sussex v Nottinghamshire
Sussex won the toss and decided to bat
Sus - 303-9

Nash was the star of the day making 128 but when he was bowled with the score on 242-5 Sussex collapsed slightly as Nottinghamshire fought back to level the day. Wright continued his good form with 81, but other batsmen struggled against the visiting line up, which included Patel, who took 3 for 66.

Pro40 cricket 24th May

Just the one game tonight, played under the lights at Hove

Pro40

Sussex v Yorkshire - Sussex win by 4 wickets
Yorkshire won the toss and decided to bat
Yor - 238-9
Sus - 240-6

Gale (42) gave Yorkshire a good start as they piled on the runs early in the innings. All of the top six made starts but none of them was able to push on, which left them short of a great score. In the end they set a competitive total, as Sussex five wickets in the last five overs.
As it turned out though Sussex made light work of the chase, getting over the line with 37 balls to spare. Wright made 103 from 95 balls, before he was the last man out with the score on 235.

Star Player: Wright, for the effortless way he took Sussex to what could have been a challenging total under lights.

County Championship Round 8 - Day 2/3

The sun has continued to beam down, lovely weather for watching cricket, but rather harder for playing in. Still it's helping games to progress, and surely there should be plenty of results this week. Indeed there has been on already and so we'll begin there.

Day 3
Somerset v Durham - Somerset win by 5 wickets
Dur - 384 & 167
Som - 400-9d & 152-5

After drawing their previous four matches Somerset finally look like winning again, which is bad news for Durham. The home side marched on to full batting points this morning after Trego was bowled for 89. They immediately declared to get back to bowling. Durham began their second innings brightly and made it to 69 with only one wicket down, but all that was about to change. Three wickets fell for no runs but that was not the most destructive spell. 62 runs later Dockrell picked up four wickets, for no runs in three overs, to reduce the visitors from 131-4 to 131-8! Another small recovery lifted Durham to 158 but their lead was a slender 151 when they were eventually dismissed.
Still there may have been some nerves after Barrow was lbw first ball and Compton was caught to leave the score on 17-2. Suppiah (73) however made sure there would be no upset, despite the late wickets that came as Somerset raced over the line.
Somerset pick up a maximum 24 points, while Durham only get 7.

Day 2

Surrey v Warwickshire
Sur - 223 & 144-4
War - 247

Batty took 6 for 73 as Surrey restricted Warwickshire to a lead of just 24 in the first innings. Wickets in the middle of the morning session meant the visitors couldn't continue as they had last night, and eventually they found themeselves on 213-9, but 34 for the last wicket boosted their total.
Their lead was short lived however as Surrey made a good start, although they lost two wickets for one run to reduce them to 108-4. Since then though they've progressed nicely to put this game in a very exciting position with two days still to play. Their lead is 120, with six wickets left.

Northamptonshire v Gloucestershire
Nor - 411
Glo - 156-6

Northamptonshire progressed slowly on past 400 today, while Gloucestershire tried eight bowlers to mix things up. In response the visitors were rocketing along at faster than 4 an over for a while, but it cost them 6 wickets, with only Dent (45) and Marshall (49*) going into double figures so far, (although 33 extras have also accumulated).

Kent v Leicestershire
Lei - 141
Ken - 404-6

Kent have taken a huge lead at home as Leicestershire struggled in the field. They only took 4wickets all day as Key (85), Nash (76) and Powell (133*) piled on the runs. Overnight the lead stands at 263 and the visitors could easily be in danger of an innings defeat.

Lancashire v Middlesex
Lan - 392
Mid - 155-5

Lancashire crept up to 392 after Prince completed a fabulous innings of 144. The visitors then lost wickets regularly, slipping to 69-3 and 95-5, before Dexter (33*) and Simpson (28*) put on 60* for the highest partnership of the innings. They will need to go in the morning though to avoid a big first innings defecit.

Hampshire v Glamorgan
Ham - 316 & 25-0
Gla - 327

A remarkably even game is unfolding at Southampton after Bragg and North both got 70s for Glamorgan. Balcombe picked up 4 wickets for Hampshire to keep the lead to just 11 and the home team's openers then saw off 8 overs, and the defecit, before the close.

Essex v Derbyshire
Ess - 182 & 46-2
Der - 323

Derbyshire built up a big lead mainly thanks to Durston who scored 116, his second hundred of the summer. Poynton also added 50* late on, off just 35 balls. Meanwhile Craddock picked up 5 for 96. second time around Essex lost two quick wickets to leave them on 3-2 but Shah and Pettini saw them through to the close, 95 runs behind.

Watch out for Pro40 cricket coming later tonight.

Wednesday 23 May 2012

County Championship Round 8 - Day 1/2

More matches began today in the sunshine, but some teams will be happier than others with plenty of wickets falling.

Day 2

Somerset v Durham
Dur - 384
Som - 357-8
Durham couldn't make it to 400 this morning but will have been pleased with their score. They are, however, facing a Somerset batting line up that succeeds time after time, and they did it again today. There have been no hundreds (yet), but four players reached half-centuries, with Trego not out on 67, having taken a team that never says die, to a fourth batting point in just 81 overs. At one point they were averaging an incredible 4.9 runs per over! This gamee is set up well after two days.

Day 1

Surrey v Warwickshire
Surrey won the toss and decided to bat
Sur - 223
War - 96-1

Surrey chose to bat but only picked up a single bonus point as the division leaders dimissed them in 60 overs. The top six all made starts but Maynard's 39 was the highest score as none of them pushed on. In reply Warwickshire lost Westwood for 5 but have progressed well to finish the day in a dominant position, with Chopra well placed on 50 not out.

Northamptonshire v Gloucestershire
Northamptonshire won the toss and decided to bat
Nor - 302-4

The hosts had an excellent day with the bat as they put Gloucestershire to the sword. Middlebrook was the star with 121, as he put on 134 for the second wicket with Coetzer (81*). The visitors tried eight different bowlers, but only 3 could make an impact.

Kent v Leicestershire
Leicestershire won the toss and decided to bat
Lei - 141
Ken - 104-2

Leicestershire recorded the lowest first innings score this week so far, putting them well behind in this game early on. Coles, Kent's leading wicket taker this year, picked up 5 for 41 as the visitors were rolled over. It looked like the wickets would just keep coming when Hoggard had Northeast caught first ball, but Kent batted steadily up to the close.

Lancashire v Middlesex
Lancashire won the toss and decided to bat
Lan - 276-4

Prince (121) helped resuce Lancashire from a slow start that had them 55-3 to put them in a strong position at the close. He put on 176 with Croft (78) as Middlesex's bowlers toiled in the sun at Liverpool. The champions seem a little nervous as they battle at the bottom of the division, which make explain their slow run rate.

Hampshire v Glamorgan
Glamorgan won the toss and decided to field
Ham - 316
Gla - 13-0

Glamorgan will feel justified in their decsion to bowl first after they dismissed Hampshire, but only once the south coast team had gone to three batting points. The visitors had the upper hand around lunch, with the home side falling to 96-5, then later at 231-9. However late runs, mainly from Ervine (109*) put on 85 for the last wicket to frustrate the team at the bottom of the table.

Essex v Derbyshire
Essex won the toss and decided to bat
Ess - 182
Der - 37-1

Essex followed the trend by opting to bat, but Derbyshire's bowlers showed why their team is at the top of Division 2 currently. Pettini made 56, but was caught and bowled by Wainwright to complete his five-for. The visitors lost Borrington early but otherwise made it to the close unscathed.

County Championship Round 8

Only a few games this week that start over several days. Today we're at Taunton.

Day 1

Somerset v Durham
Durham won the toss and decided to bat
Dur - 353-8

Durham made a very strong start to this game with Smith (96) and Di Venuto (100) putting on 158 for the first wicket. After that Somerset slowly fought their way back into the game, although Durham are in a strong position at the close. The visitors may be a little disappointed at their dismissals however. Two were run outs, and all the rest were caught, suggestion poor shots rather than great bowling.

Pro40 Cricket and Tables - 20th May

A good day for winning the toss and a good day for batting first, although in our first game neither of those things were true. There were no really big scores, but equally, few tight games.

Kent v Unicorns - Unicorns win by 4 wickets
Kent won the toss and decided to bat
Ken - 165
Uni - 166-6

Only Northeast (69) passed 50 as Kent struggled, despite having opted to bat, while Querl was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 41. In reply the Unicorns batted steadily and only lost occasional wickets until, with the score on 128, Tredwell took two in as many balls leaving the visitors in trouble with only four wickets left. Parsons (46*) and Querl (24*) batted excellently though to see the game home with an over to spare.

Star Player: Querl, for a superb all round effort with both bat and ball.

Lancashire v Essex - Lancashire win by 28 runs
Lancashire won the toss and decided to bat
Lan - 258-9
Ess - 230

Moore (62), Croft (53) and Horton (54) all chipped in to help Lancashire to a healthy total batting first. Masters picked up four wickets but the home side built a strong platform that they could attack from later.
A good all round bowling effort then reduced Essex to 139-6. Smith (44) and Napier (51) tried their best to get themselves back into the game but it was too little too late.

Star Player: Moore, for top scoring a setting Lancashire well on their way.

Leicestershire v Middlesex - Middlesex win by 31 runs
Leicestershire won the toss and decided to field
Mid - 241-5
Lei - 210

All of Middlesex's batsmen made starts, although only Dexter (54*) made to a half-century. Leicestershire couldn't match this effort as they lost 3 wickets for 2 runs to leave them 33-4 in reply. Wicket-keeper Eckersley made 46 to add to his two catches earlier but the home side fell well short.

Star Player: Dexter, for staying to the end of the innings and top scoring.

Northamptonshire v Sussex - Sussex win by 12 runs
Sussex won the toss and decided to bat
Sus - 180
Nor - 168-7

Sussex made an excellent start through Wright 59, but Northamptonshire pegged them back with 3 wickets for 5 runs. Only four batsmen made it to double figures as the visitors fell well short of using all their overs. Daggett picked up 4 wickets for 31 in his seven overs.
Northamptonshire will have expected to win chasing that score but were too casual and let the run rate climb. Again several batsmen failed to make starts, while others (Sales, 51) batted well. In the end a great bowling effort restricted the home side, despite them not being all out.

Star Player: Wright, for making a bright start.

Surrey v Durham - Surrey win by 60 runs
Surrey won the toss and chose to bat
Sur - 221-7
Dur - 161

77 from Maynard and 60 not out from Ansari helped recover Surrey after a steady start that left them 47-3. They were the only innings of note however as the home side posted an average total. Durham though, never got near it. Muchall (41) and Collingwood (32) had them on track at 120-3 after 27 overs, but then the visitors collapsed to finish well short.

Star Player: Maynard, for holding the innings together and top scoring.

Yorkshire v Derbyshire - Yorkshire win by 7 wickets
Yorkshire won the toss and chose to field.
Der - 219-8
Yor - 223-3

Hughes (50) and Guptill (89) put on 137 for the first wicket to set Derbyshire up well. Unfortunately they couldn't capitalise and lost wickets steadily throughout the rest of the innings to only set a par score. In reply Yorkshire's lowest scoring batsman was Root (28*) while Ballance helped him see the game home with 77 off 60 balls with six 4s and four 6s as the home side hit 70 in 8 overs.

Star Player: Ballance, a great knock to secure the game.

Scotland v Hampshire - Hampshire win by 89 runs
Hampshire won the toss and chose to bat
Ham - 220
Sco - 131

Carberry hit 76 to set Hampshire on their way to an average score in Glasgow. He also took a wicket as the visitors romped to a huge victory. The Scottish batsmen failed to really get going and were all out in 33 overs.

Start Player: Carberry, for the stand out innings of the game and picking up a wicket.

County Championship R7 - Day 4 and Tables

What looked to be the most exciting week of Championship Cricket yet turned to disappointment, as every game ended in a draw.

Day 4

Warwickshire v Lancashire - Match drawn
War - 557-6d
Lan - 197 & 343-5 (f/o)

An astonishing second innings batting performance from Lancashire turned this game around. Horton carried his bat to make 137 not out, while Cross finished on 75*. Warwickshire used eight bowlers but failed to claim what should have been an easy victory.
Warwickshire take 9 points, while Lancashire pick up 4.

Surrey v Somerset - Match drawn
Som - 512-9d & 180
Sur - 388 & 239-7

Somerset's innings was wrapped up in the morning as they set a challenging total of 305 for Surrey to win. Meaker finished with career best figures of 8 for 52.
Surrey's reply started badly. Davies couldn't match his first innings ton and was out for 4. Roy (41) and Rudolf (45) took the score to 94 from 25 overs, but both were out soon after. Hamilton-Brown top scored with 70* but regularly lost partners as Somerset edged towards a win. In the end though the teams settled for a draw.
Surrey collect 10 points, to Somersets 11.

Leicestershire v Essex - Match drawn
Lei - 372 & 306-5
Ess - 409 & 30-2

Leicestershire set Essex 270 to win, but not enough time. Only twelve overs were bowled of the final innings and although the home side took two wickets, it was never going to happen. Earlier Sarwan fell two short of a hundred.
Leicestershire take 9 points, but Essex get 10.

Worcestershire v Sussex - Match drawn
Sus - 315 & 258-4
Wor - 259 & 174-4

Joyce went past 100 again as Sussex set Worcestershire 315 to win. The home side made a good go of it, but ran out of time as the game ended tamely.
Worcestershire claim 8 points and Sussex pick up 9.

Yorkshire v Hampshire - Match drawn
Ham - 427 & 191-2d
Yor - 399-9d

A lot of time was lost today, which spoiled another exciting contest. Katich added 61* to his 196 in the first innings as Hampshire set Yorkshire 220 to win, but the final innings never began.
Yorkshire get 9 points, while Hampshire take 10.

Kent v Northamptonshire - Match drawn
Nor - 418 & 123-0d
Ken - 280-6d & 110-1

Kent declared overnight and gave Northamptonshire some easy runs, to set up a tense finale. In the end though the visitors played it safe by setting a target that was never going to be getable. In reply Kent played the game slowly to avoid being dismissed easily and so another game finished disappointingly.
Kent pick up 6 points to Northamptonshire's 7.
