County Champ Day 3/2/1 and Pro40 cricket - 12th July

Another Championship game and a Pro40 match to add to the matches begun earlier this week means that seven games should have been in progress today. However for the second day running rain washed out the Pro40 match, and ended almost every other match prematurely.

County Championship

Day 3

Worcestershire v Durham
Dur - 234 & 67-0
Wor - 205

Worcestershire built well in the morning taking their score to 145-2 and 162-3 but Durham fought back through Borthwick (4 for 37) and Rushworth (3 for 43). The home side scraped to a batting point but had to concede a 29 run defecit.
Durham began their second innings and soon had the upper hand in this bottom-of-the-table clash. Stoneman (41*) went past his first innings score of 38 as he and Smith took the visitors' lead past 100. Worcestershire rotated their bowlers but Durham scored quickly until rain brought an early end.

Day 2

Middlesex v Nottinghamshire
Mid - 98
Not - 329

Nottinghamshire continued steadily in the morning session and added 95 runs before lunch for the loss of just 1 wicket. Voges had gone to 50 from 100 balls, and Read, the last recognised batsman was on 33. After lunch they took their partnership past 100 as the visitors took a stranglehold on the game.
With the partnership on 143 Read (71) was caught and bowled but Voges went to his century in 166 balls, plus taking Nottinghamshire's lead past 200. Adams' innings was, as usual, short and firey. The first ball was was dispatched for 6 and the second for 4. The third ball was edged and dropped at slip (one of several for Middlesex) but the fourth ball was played on. Voges (105) went shortly after and Nottinghamshire were all out soon after with a lead of 231.
Sadly during tea the rain arrived and no more play was possible, looking at the forecast Middlesex may yet get away with a draw.

Surrey v Lancashire
Lan - 425-7

Lancashire took the game away from Surrey this morning, building on their excellent start yesterday. Croft (104*) was the mainstay in the middle order while the host's bowlers toiled in the field. Croft has now gone past 500 runs for the season, while Prince (who was caught for 34) is 5 runs short of 700 this year. Croft though may have a bigger milestone on his mind as he only needs a further 27 to go to 4000 first class runs.
As it was across the capital rain arrived forcing an early end to the days proceedings.

Gloucestershire v Essex
Glo - 284-4

Cowan went on to 103 this morning, not bad for his first innings of the season, before falling lbw, after a partnership of 104 with Marshall (72*) who is easily Gloucestershire's leading run scorer with 560 so far. The hosts have scored slowly, but could be in a strong position if they can take their total up to 400.

Hampshire v Yorkshire
Hampshire won the toss and decided to field
Yor - 83-3

Play finally got underway today and Hampshire quickly made the breakthrough with Lyth going lbw. The visitors edged along to 28 but two wickets in two balls from Ali, both caught behind, put Yorkshire in deep trouble. Root (46*) and Ballance (17*) then set about repairing the damage, but no sooner had they evened the game up than the rain returned, and this game is surely now only for bonus points.

Day 1

Warwickshire v Sussex
Warwickshire won the toss and chose to bat
War - 175-3

Panesar picked two wickets, both lbw, as Sussex pegged back Warwickshire who had put on 66 for the first wicket. Porterfield had scored 43 of those, but later Ian Bell (57) went past him in a strong knock to put the home side back in front. Troughton (42*) increased the home side's score before the rain began falling in Birmingham too.

Pro40 Cricket

Glamorgan v Somerset - No result
No play due to rain
